Time Travels in Spicer, Minnesota - how to deal with limited funds?
In 1888, Anders is awaiting the arrival of his bride-to-be from Sweden. The students travel back in time to help prepare the log home and celebrate her arrival. They help with household chores, preparing dinner, making a toy and singing and dancing. The program lasts about 4 hours and includes a light lunch.
The Time Travel experience has been very well received. Teachers that have brought out students continue to do so every year. The challenge has been to find funding sources and keep program costs low in order for the Time Travel to be a viable option for teachers.
Time Travel project leader, Teri Wermerskirchen, believes that recruiting senior citizens and students as volunteer drama facilitators, is one way to involve the community and keep costs in check. Area senior citizens have been offered informational luncheons in the cozy log cabin of the center. Everyone enjoys reminiscing while dining in the warmth of the woodstove by candlelight!
